Hopewell Elementary is named after the prehistoric archeological site approximately 900 feet west of the school. The Holder-Wright Earthworks were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. This prehistoric archeological site consists of three geometric earthworks and five Hopewell Native American burial mounds, considered to belong to the Middle Woodland period, dating from about 100 B.C. to 500 A.D. During the Middle Woodland period in central Ohio, the Hopewell culture predominated. Hopewellian people gathered at these earthworks for feasts, funerals and rites of passage. Hopewell Elementary classes regularly visit the earthworks to enhance their learning experiences.
District enrollment when the building opened was 15,800 students.
The building is 82,000 square feet in size.
